We usually post an email newsletter weekly – and expect to return to that practice in 2013.

However, we don’t usually post them here and that sometimes makes them a little tougher to find. So we’ll try posting them here (when there are significant updates). If you’re a paid member of the NM Tech Council, you should have been signed up automatically (if not, let us know!), but otherwise you can sign up for our mailing list(s) here.

Meanwhile, here’s a slightly modified version of our latest:

Dear Community Member

2013 is already moving fast and we look forward to working with you to continue building a stronger, more competitive tech business sector in New Mexico!

Very best wishes to you and yours for the new year from the New Mexico Technology Council and our Community Partners.

TEDxABQED (1/11)
We at the New Mexico Technology Council have been big fans of the work of the TEDxABQ team with many of our members and partners serving as volunteers, sponsors and providing other support. The TED organization and TEDxABQED are turning their sites toward improving education through sharing big ideas and great information while building community, and NMTC is proud to be a sponsor. NM CYBERSECURITY: NOW & TOMORROW (1/23)
Our “Cybersecurity Working Group” kicks off the year with a bang and updates on the Western Cyber Exchange, efforts around an Albuquerque area Center for Cybersecurity, Sandia’s CERL and more. We’ll provide time for Q&A and discussion to see which opportunities we can make the most of and help set our group’s agenda for the year. Sign up at: http://www.nmtechcouncil.org/event/nm-cybersecurity-now-tomorrow

NMWIT: PROCESS IMPROVEMENT METHODOLOGIES – A PRIMER (1/24)
Our NM Women in Technology group leader Sheri Clark kicks off the year with a look at four different process improvement methodologies (CMMI, CMMI for Services, ITIL, ISO 9001:2008), how they differ and why they might be appropriate for your organization. Aimed not just at tech and IT professionals, this breakfast session is appropriate for a wide range of people and organizations seeking effective ways to manage improvements to the way they do business. Visit us here for registration and more information.

STARTUP WEEKEND SANTA FE (3/1-3)
“Startup Weekend” has become a huge force for encouraging entrepreneurship and bringing together the talents that help startup communities grow. We’re excited to be working with our friends and partners to launch New Mexico’s first Startup Weekend in Santa Fe, the weekend of March 1st. Much more info is on its way, but for now, please save those 54 hours and considersigning up for startup related content with this list. Want to get involved and/or support, please let me know!

LOOKING FOR MEETUPS?
One of the Tech Council’s ongoing themes is the need to grow and build connections between groups throughout our state’s tech ecosystem. That’s one big reason for our continuing work with other leading technology associations in the “JT8,” for sharing a wide range of info and creating events that bring different interests and skill sets together. You’ll see even more of that in 2013. If you are interested in meetup-like groups (we list quite a few at the bottom of each email), please take a look at our larger listing of meetup groups here. Don’t see an active group that should be there? Let me know. Recognize an area that seems to be missing? Please share your thoughts and discuss!

OUR FRIENDS AT QUELAB
Our friends and partners at Quelab usually have too many activities going on for us to post them all (it’s a long list already!). With twice-weekly hacknights, monthly making events, weekly Linux and a new monthly (cybersecurity) ‘Packet Party’, we suggest you check out their site and Facebook group – there are plenty of ways to get involved!

ARE YOU AND/OR YOUR BUSINESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
Social Media – and the variety of platforms and channels – aren’t for everyone. As with any mode of communication, you should determine whether you can use it to achieve the goals you want. To the extent that we can, we’d like to help. Since we both want to connect our communities and amplify stories that highlight the activities and stories that show our state off to its best advantage, we have an active presence on Linked In,Facebook, and more recently, Google +. Please consider connecting with us and let us know how we can help you more.
