New Mexico Joins the Global Startup Battle with Three Startup Weekends

(originally published Oct 14, 2013)
This November, three sites in New Mexico will launch Startup Weekend events during Global Entrepreneurship Week and the “Global Startup Battle” from UP Global and Startup Weekend. Sites include Farmington with “Four Corners Startup Weekend,” Las Cruces Startup Weekend and the world’s first high school-focused Startup Weekend, “Teen Startup Weekend” in Albuquerque. These three events in different regions mark a substantial step forward in encouraging startup activity throughout the state and with a wider group of potential entrepreneurs. All three events run November 15-17th.

Startup Weekend has proven to be one of the world’s most popular and effective ways of bringing startup talent together and building entrepreneurial ecosystems with 54-hour sprints that transform ideas into validated business models using a lean startup approach. Startup Weekend events this year in Santa Fe and Albuquerque have already launched several companies and at least one company has received over $100K in funding.

Not all Startup Weekend teams will achieve the same success, but participants, organizers, coaches and judges alike agree that it’s one of the most valuable and intense events they’ve experienced. Now New Mexican’s from throughout the state and others from surrounding regions can experience it for themselves.
