Her work spans a diverse range of fields, including ranching, environmental monitoring, land use, water, public safety, and infrastructure. Natalie’s current efforts focus on formalizing policies and frameworks that enhance resource coordination and collaboration among GIS professionals across New Mexico.
Prior to becoming GIO, Natalie has led groundbreaking projects that have reshaped the use of GIS in the state. She was instrumental in designing the FileNet document management system for the New Mexico State Land Office, which transitioned the agency from paper-based records to a comprehensive, location-based digital system. This transformation was recognized by Esri in a published case study. Her expertise has also made an impact globally, as she co-authored the Spatial Data Infrastructure Master Plan for Abu Dhabi and contributed to geospatial advancements in 3D built environments. For her innovative enterprise GIS implementation at the Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department, Natalie and her team received Esri’s Special Achievement in GIS Award in 2018.
Beyond her technical achievements, Natalie has dedicated her career to empowering colleagues and communities by making technology accessible and relevant. From mentoring graduate school peers in database design to helping landowners and business developers plan resources, Natalie bridges the gap between technical expertise and practical applications. Her ability to foster collaboration and understanding has empowered diverse audiences, particularly in technology-driven environments where women are often underrepresented.
Natalie’s commitment to community service is equally inspiring. While balancing her professional and personal responsibilities as the sole provider for her family, she has supported causes that align with her values. These include the Ronald McDonald House, urban farming initiatives, and disability advocacy organizations. One of her most rewarding experiences was helping build a Habitat for Humanity house as part of an all-woman team, reflecting her dedication to community development and inclusion.
Through her contributions, Natalie exemplifies the qualities celebrated by the Women in Tech Awards. Her innovation, leadership, and dedication to empowering others showcase how technology can address complex challenges while fostering stronger, more inclusive communities.
