Shaping the Future of Defense Technology While Lifting Others in STEM

With over 20 years of experience in Test and Evaluation of High-Power Microwave (HPM) systems, Jennifer has established herself as a trailblazer in the field of directed energy technology. Her career journey is defined by technical excellence, leadership, and a steadfast commitment to advancing the role of women in STEM. Currently serving as a Technical Advisor, Jennifer mentors a team of engineers and scientists, sharing her expertise while fostering the next generation of innovators.

Jennifer’s path to becoming one of the nation’s foremost experts in her field was not without challenges. Starting her undergraduate studies in Astrophysics at New Mexico Tech in 1998, she navigated an environment where women were significantly underrepresented. Her perseverance in overcoming these obstacles laid the foundation for a career that exemplifies resilience and determination.

Jennifer has held pivotal roles, including Chief Engineer, Program Manager, and Chief Scientist, across dozens of research initiatives with government and private institutions. Her work has directly influenced groundbreaking advancements in high-power microwave systems, including the DARPA-funded research project that achieved revolutionary innovations in protecting soldiers and civilians from drone threats. Under her leadership, her team progressed through all three DARPA funding phases, standing out among formidable competitors.

Her dedication to excellence has not gone unnoticed. In 2022, Jennifer received the “Outstanding Team Award” for her contributions to a large-scale HPM test at China Lake Naval Base. In 2023, she earned the “Outstanding Achievement Award” at her current company, with her CEO highlighting her unparalleled expertise and critical role in shaping HPM test procedures for the Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO). This recognition underscores her ability to build trust, inspire confidence, and deliver results in the most demanding contexts.

Mentorship is a cornerstone of Jennifer’s career and personal mission. She has profoundly impacted young professionals, particularly women in STEM, through her mentorship. One protégé shared, “Jennifer, as a mentor, scientist, and engineer, embodies the characteristics that a woman in STEM needs to succeed. Her attention to detail pushes me to think critically, and her dedication to finding meaningful solutions has taught me confidence and accountability. She goes above and beyond to inspire and empower.”

Jennifer’s influence extends beyond her workplace. She has volunteered with organizations like the Girl Scouts, introducing young girls to science and technology through hands-on experiments and inspiring discussions about careers in STEM. As a member of the Directed Energy Professional Society, she chaired the “Directed Energy Systems Symposium,” collaborating with leading experts to review groundbreaking research.

Balancing her professional achievements with a strong sense of community and family, Jennifer and her husband are proud foster parents to two remarkable daughters. Her involvement in the Parent Teacher Organization and other volunteer efforts exemplifies her commitment to nurturing the next generation both at home and in her community.

Jennifer’s career reflects a rare combination of technical brilliance, perseverance, and heartfelt dedication to empowering others. Her achievements in high-power microwave systems, her role as a mentor to the next generation of engineers, and her advocacy for women in STEM stand as a testament to her enduring impact.
