Advancing Tech Training and Economic Growth in New Mexico

Andrea Sisneros Wichman, Senior Director of Programs at CNM Ingenuity, is a leader in workforce development and a catalyst for positive change in the community. In her role, she oversees innovative programs that connect learners to careers, driving economic growth while fostering inclusion and opportunity. Her work reflects a deep commitment to empowering individuals and building stronger communities through education.

A cornerstone of Andrea’s achievements is her work with CNM Ingenuity’s Deep Dive Bootcamps. These programs are nationally recognized for providing hands-on, intensive training in high-demand fields such as software development, data science, and digital media. Designed to bridge the gap between education and the workforce, Deep Dive Bootcamps equip learners with the technical skills, real-world experience, and industry connections needed to thrive in competitive careers. Under Andrea’s leadership, the bootcamps expanded from one to nine programs in just eight years, setting a precedent that other institutions now seek to replicate.

Among these groundbreaking programs is the Quantum Technician Bootcamp, which Andrea is leading to address the needs of an emerging industry of national interest. With its emphasis on leveraging New Mexico’s human capital and research assets, this innovative program is one of the first of its kind. It positions CNM as a leader in workforce development and prepares students for careers in quantum technologies, a field poised to transform the future.

Andrea’s impact extends far beyond program expansion. Her efforts have directly benefited thousands of individuals, from offering tuition assistance to connecting graduates with wraparound services like mentorship and career coaching. Many alumni have gone on to launch companies, volunteer, and mentor others, contributing to the very community that supported them.

Andrea’s dedication has earned her numerous accolades, including the 2019 Excellence in Workforce Development Award from Albuquerque Economic Development, the 2020 STEM New Mexico Higher Ed Program of the Year Award from the Air Force Research Laboratory, and multiple national recognitions from the Learning Resources Network for excellence in programming. In 2024, she was selected to join the Pew Research Group and Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education advisory group for non-degree credentials, underscoring her expertise and influence in workforce education.

Andrea’s mentorship has transformed lives, particularly for women reentering or reskilling in tech fields. She has personally mentored more than 200 women, offering support that goes beyond technical training. Her guidance has helped individuals overcome barriers, secure scholarships, and transition into meaningful careers.

In addition to her professional achievements, Andrea is an active advocate for STEM education. She volunteers at community events and schools, introducing students to coding and technology through interactive workshops. Her work with the National Council of Continuing Education and Training (NCCET) and her role in Leadership Albuquerque reflect her broader commitment to creating equitable opportunities for all.

Andrea’s contributions embody the spirit of the Women in Tech Awards. Her innovation, leadership, and relentless commitment to community impact demonstrate how education can serve as a tool for transformation, empowering individuals to succeed while building a brighter future for everyone.
