Quantum Computing March Session Recap
The March session covered quantum education initiatives, career training programs, and hands-on learning opportunities designed to make quantum science more accessible. Below are key takeaways, resources, and opportunities for students, educators, and professionals.
What is QCamp?
A four-week, hands-on summer camp where highschoolers and educators get a deep dive into the weird but powerful world of quantum computing.
- No prior knowledge is required– Basic algebra is all that’s required.
- Real-world quantum computing – students build quantum circuits and run them on an actual IBM quantum computer.
- It’s free AND you get paid – Students and teachers receive stipends, so they don’t have to choose between learning and working a summer job.
QCamp 2025 Dates
- Student Camp: June 30 – July 25, 2025 (Applications close April 1)
- Educator Camp: June 16 – June 20, 2025 (Applications close April 14)
What is QuanTime New Mexico?
An initiative bringing bite-sized quantum activities to K-12 classrooms, modeled after Hour of Code to fit within a single class period.
- Engaging & Accessible – No prior quantum knowledge needed; activities range from elementary to high school levels.
- Hands-on Learning – Students explore quantum concepts through interactive projects like binary coding bracelets and wave-particle duality experiments.
- Support for Educators – Free lesson plans, classroom kits, and up to $150 stipends for teachers implementing QuanTime activities.
QuanTime 2025 Highlights
- 538 attendees at the Explora kickoff event, featuring 14 quantum activity booths.
- 52 teachers trained, with 405 students participating in classroom quantum lessons.
- Resources Available Now – Access lesson plans, training recordings, and activity guides online.
Quantum Learning Lab: Hands-On Training for Quantum Careers
The Quantum Learning Lab (QuLL) is a 10-week, in-person training program designed to teach the technical skills needed to work in quantum technology and advanced manufacturing. Students will gain hands-on experience with lasers, optics, vacuum systems, and quantum computing fundamentals to prepare for jobs in semiconductors, solar energy, and opto-electronics.
